Metro-North has said it is considering charging for parking at its Port Jervis and Pascack Valley line stations as the lots are expanded and renovated in the coming year. A new parking garage in Poughkeepsie, for example, cost $18.5 million. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Metro-North's parent agency, approved the increases this week to help offset the $30 million that the railroad has spent in recent years to improve and maintain the lots. "As long as I have a place to park in a secure place, I don't have a problem with the increase,'' said Carl Steiniger of New Windsor, who has been commuting to the city from Beacon for 10 years.
